Geography and history

Sasolburg is a town located in the Northern Free State region of the Free State Province in South Africa. It owes its existence and name to the petro-chemical industry. Sasolburg was laid out in the early 1950s in order to provide housing and facilities for SASOL (South African Coal Oil and Gas) employees. Interestingly enough, the town is a leader in environmental awareness as there is more flora in town than people. Sasolburg is a large industrial town and the majority of its residents speak Afrikaans.
