Geography and history
Theunissen is a small town located in the Lejweleputswa region of the Free State Province in South Africa. This town was founded by Anglo-Boer War Cmdt Helgard Theunissen and the town was then also named after him in honour of his service in the war. Theunissen is the only town in the Free State Province that has an estate vineyard. Os du Randt, a Springbok rugby legend, has a farm in the area named Tama. This town consists of small farms and is predominantly a miners community.

Theunissen has a mixture of historical and nature sites for tourists to take pleasure in. The Theunissen Wine Farm is the only of its kind in the province. The farm is surrounded by natural beauty and visitors can enjoy their surroundings whilst sampling the estate’s wine.
