Geography and history
Dewetsdorp is a town located in the Motheo and Xhariep region of the Free State Province in South Africa. This town was originally a village on the farm Kareefontein. Jacobus de Wet decided, without permission from the Volksraad, that this farm would offer safety to those in war. This farm village was named after De Wet and officially recognised after it became a municipality in 1890.
