Vaal Dam
General Information
The Vaal Dam is a popular tourist area located in the Northern region of the Free State, South Africa. Constructed in 1938 the Vaal Dam is South Africa's fourth largest dam by volume and has a shoreline spanning over 800kms. The dam lies on the Vaal River, which is also one of South Africa's strongest-flowing rivers. The dam is bordered by three provinces: the Free State having the longest stretch, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.
Deneysville is the largest town on the Vaal Dam and provides a shopping centre for the area. On the dam there are three yacht clubs and two marinas, all providing entertainment for visitors.
The Vaal Dam provides the perfect holiday getaway for those seeking solitude from city-life.
