The Top Natural Wonders of South Africa

South Africa is a country full of incredible natural wonders, and you're sure to get to see a few of them when you enjoy a holiday here. But sometimes it can be difficult to know which ones you should make the time to visit. After all, South Africa is a big country and you won't be able to see them all. Here are a few of the most incredible natural wonders to help you decide which ones to visit.

Table Mountain

This is perhaps the easiest of all the natural wonders in South Africa to visit because of its location. Towering over Cape Town, as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, if you visit the city then you will not be able to miss this incredible sight. Of course, Table Mountain is not just for admiring from a distance. Instead, if you have time you should take a trip on the cable car up to the top for a fantastic view of the city below. And if you really want to explore the mountain then you can join a hiking expedition or take part in other sports including rock climbing.

Amphitheatre and Tungela Falls

At over three miles long, the Amphitheatre in the Royal Natal National Park in Kwazulu-Natal Province is one of the most awe-inspiring natural sights in South Africa. With a summit over 3,000 metres above sea level, this huge cliff is 1,220 metres high along its length, and is a colossal sight to behold. One of the most impressive features of the Amphitheatre is Tungela Falls, which should not be missed if you make the trip here. This is the second-highest waterfall on Earth, with only Angel Falls in Venezuela higher. In total, the water cascades down from 948 metres in five different drops, with the largest single fall being a truly impressive 411 metres. Visit the park and go on one of the hiking trails across the fantastic landscape to explore one of the most magnificent areas in South Africa.

Vredefort Dome

Vredefort Dome is one of the largest impact craters on the planet, and one of the most awe-inspiring sights to behold in South Africa. Located in Free State Province, it has a diameter of between 155 and 186 miles and is about 2 billion years old. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are a number of towns and cities fairly nearby, including the town of Vredefort after which the crater is named. As well as relaxing and enjoying the way of life, there are a number of things to do here. The most popular is to climb to the top of the dome and enjoy the incredible views, although game viewing is also possible.

Incredible South Africa

South Africa has an unfair amount of incredible natural wonders to explore, and you should do your best to visit at least a few of them during your holiday. The above should provide you with a good starting point, but there are many more besides. Just make sure you get to see at least a few on your trip.
