As a parent you likely enjoy sharing new experiences with your kids, but when it comes to travelling you may be apprehensive. If this is the case, you are not alone. Travelling with children is very different from travelling with only adults, but if the right measures are taken, it can be a great experience for all of you. If you want to have a wonderful time travelling with your children you should continue reading this article for great tips.
Make sure your kids can find their personal belongings without your help. You will save a lot of time if you do not have to look for something your child wants often. If there are special items such as a favourite stuffed animal or blanket to sleep with, make sure those are not forgotten.
Include books that will entertain your children with pictures to colour, games to play and stories to read. Many children enjoy listening to music or story CD's, so bring along a portable CD player and an assortment of favourite CD's.
Even if your children are old enough to pack their own bags, double check their luggage to ensure they have necessary items like bedtime toiletries and enough clothing. It is inconvenient and costly if you need to stop along the way or take time at your destination to shop for necessary items.
A first aid kit is a good idea for any vacation, but is especially necessary if children are along. The medical supplies should include band aids, antiseptic, anti-itch cream and digestive aids. You might also ask your doctor for an antibiotic to take along in case you need one while on the road.
Many motels and hotels have special rates for families with children, and have child friendly activities available. Most hotels include swimming pools, and some have water parks as well as game rooms. You can enjoy relaxing while watching your kids burn off the extra energy they built up during a long road trip.
Kids love to take pictures, so give them each an inexpensive camera of their own to record their travel adventures. Some digital cameras are quite inexpensive, and your kids will think it is fun to immediately see the photos they have taken. They can also delete the ones they do not want to keep.
Most kids have an idea about what activities they would like to spend time on, so consider their opinion. If the kids are not enjoying their trip, your enjoyment can also be dampened.
If you are travelling to a different country, it is important that your children know at least a few of the most important words. If they should be separated from you, it is important that they can ask someone for directions back to their hotel. This would be more of a concern if your children are old enough to try exploring on their own.
As an extra safety measure, you could make sure each child has a basic cell phone to contact you if they are separated. Make sure the cell phone has reception in the area you are visiting before considering this option.
Travelling with your kids is a great way to build memories that last a lifetime. Even though the expense and inconvenience take some extra effort, the payoff is great. Use some or all of these tips to make sure your travels are enjoyable.
