Windmill Casino supports small tourism industry player

Donation of kitchen equipment to help fund-raising activities

As a leading tourism destination in Bloemfontein, Windmill Casino is proud to support smaller industry players as part of their Sustainable Economic Development initiatives.

Windmill Casino has purchased kitchen equipment for the Global Village Museum to enable them to generate funds for the museum by selling food to the public on selected days. This includes a chest freezer, gas burner and cylinder, pots and utensils and other dishes valued at almost R20 000.

The purpose of Global Village Museum is to collect preserve, interpret and display objects of artistic, cultural, and scientific importance for study and education of the public. It was opened by Johannes Moshao in Grassland Phase 2, Bloemfontein in 2008 to capture the culture and history of South Africa. The Museum’s vision is community development and the promotion of community initiatives, its mission is to embrace cultural diversity with a goal of nation-building and contribution towards economic activities.

“Windmill is pleased to be able to support a fellow tourism operator - Moshao’s museum is a popular tourist attraction which has great cultural significance,” said Windmill General Manager, Johan Oosthuizen

Moshao has also written a book educating people on the Sesotho culture, including the Detima mural art style composed of decorative and symbolic geometric patterns. The street where the museum is located is dotted with brightly coloured houses, painted with different patterns and colours which have specific meaning.

Programmes which the Global Village Museum is involved in include food security, educational seminars, museum tours, environmental awareness, women and children abuse, cancer awareness, domestic violence. Important calendar days include public holidays, Mandela Day and the 16 Days of Activism.
